Overview
ThaiSociety is committed to making our website accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability or technology. We aim to conform to Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
These guidelines set out the internationally recognised standard for building websites that are perceivable, operable, understandable and strong for all users, including those who rely on assistive technologies such as screen readers, magnification software, speech recognition tools and alternative input devices.
Measures We Have Taken
We have adopted the following practices across the ThaiSociety website:
- All pages include a properly declared language attribute, character encoding and responsive viewport settings to support a range of devices and browsers.
- Semantic HTML elements are used throughout, including headings, lists, navigation landmarks and form labels, so that assistive technologies can interpret page structure correctly.
- All form fields are associated with visible labels. Required fields are clearly identified, and error or success messages are presented in plain language.
- Images carry descriptive alternative text. Decorative elements are hidden from assistive technologies using appropriate ARIA attributes.
- Interactive elements such as links, buttons and form controls are operable by keyboard alone and include visible focus indicators.
- The site supports the
prefers-reduced-motionmedia query, disabling animations and transitions for users who have indicated this preference in their system settings. - Colour contrast ratios between text and background meet or exceed the WCAG AA minimum of 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text.
- Navigation is consistent across all pages, and all interactive elements have clear, descriptive labels.
Known Limitations
Whilst we work to uphold the standards described above, we acknowledge that certain areas of the site may not yet fully conform. We are aware of the following:
- Some older guide content may contain images that lack sufficiently detailed alternative text. We are reviewing and updating these on an ongoing basis.
- Third-party embedded content, where used, may not meet the same accessibility standards as our own pages.
- Certain PDF documents linked from the site may not be fully accessible to screen readers. Where possible, we provide HTML alternatives.
We treat accessibility as an ongoing effort and are continuously working to identify and resolve any barriers on the site.
Assistive Technology Compatibility
The site is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:
- Screen readers including JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver
- Screen magnification software
- Speech recognition tools such as Dragon NaturallySpeaking
- Keyboard-only navigation
We test our pages in modern versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge.
